Dale Faber is in his eighth season as head coach for the Friends University men's basketball team. His philosophy for building and maintaining a successful basketball program is simple: find good student athletes with strong values who are dedicated, hard working, loyal and committed to representing Friends University in a positive light at all times. Known for his quick humor, Coach Faber strives to be supportive in all aspects of his players' lives. The philosophy of faith, family, academics and basketball has become a thought process that fuels the success of his teams. Coach Faber expects accountability and attention to detail out of all staff and team members. He is proud to be supported by his wife of 22 years, Stacey, and his daughters, Kelsey and Lia. He refers to his family as the ultimate team players.
A word from Coach Faber: My family and I are excited about our eighth year at Friends University. The support of our president, Dr. Green, and Athletic Director, Mr. Zimmerman, continues to amaze and, at times, almost overwhelm me. I am sure all coaches will tell you that when you have the support and backing from all administrative levels, the coaching job becomes so much easier. This year, 15 out of our 19 returning players are on the Athletic Director's Honor Roll. These statistics can't happen without everyone at the University making contributions to the program and working together. I would like to thank our faculty for helping us maintain and grow the integrity of the term "student athlete." We will continue to reach for higher goals in our team's academic growth and strive for our yearly goal of having 90% of our team recognized on the AD Honor Roll. We have achieved this before and we will do our best to reach our goal again this year.
This season offers numerous basketball challenges as we move into a new era after having seven veteran players graduate from last year's team. The 2008 senior class played in three national tournaments and left a legacy of hard work and dedication. Players on this year's team understand the lofty expectations and goals in front of them. The bar has been set high but they know where it is set and they're willing to commit to raising it even higher. No one associated with Friends University would have it any other way!
